Greenwood YMCA Sprint Triathlon

TYB Racing had a very good showing at the Greenwood Sprint Tri this past weekend. We were able to get 4 guys in the top 6 overall. Chris Olson took the overall( 51:35) with a really strong ride and run . Coming in 2nd not too far back was our favorite youngster Cameron Dorn (54:18)..Stephen Shenal came in 5th overall (59:22) which was really 4th if you take out the relay team result. Hal Outen finished 6th (5th minus the relay team) with a time of 59:36..Jonathan Sowinski had a good race also, finishing 17th...Great to have TYB Racing all in the top 20..Great Job guys..Keep up the great results!!

Greenwood Kids Tri

Just a few pictures of some of the team at The Greenwood Kids Triathlon. We helped out in transition and Stephen got some extra training in running (racing) with the participants. As a parent of one of the participants, thanks for the help....By the way, my daughter won her age group!(6 year old) with a sub 10 minute mile.

Parris Island Sprint: the season opener

The Setup Events web page for this race says "Parris Island starts the South Carolina Triathlon Series season in a big way. Triathletes from all over the nation come to test their early season training at the flat and fast closed course." Indeed, it's a great chance to see where your strengths and weaknesses are to prepare for the meat of the season.

TYB Racing Team showed up in force and looking sharp with newly arrived uniforms. We were told later that heads were turning as we all went out on a pre-race warm up ride, and it felt great to show our colors!
The team had a very strong showing, with Jamie Church placing 4th overall (missing 3rd place by a slim 4 seconds!), Cameron Dorn placing 6th overall, and Stephen Shenal winning his age group. Pete Edge took second place in the Masters division, while Pete Risell, Hal Outen, and David Duchan all went top-ten in their respective age groups.

Great job, and this year is looking good for TYB Racing!

Bring on the race season!

As the pre-season activities and training draw to a close, we start to focus on the first few races of the season, and celebrate the early successes of the year. On Feb 2nd, David managed to win his age group in the 2nd annual Stampede for Hope 5K road race, organized by Maulin High School. Jonathan really kicked it into gear at the Feb 9th Green Valley 8K road race, winning his age group, while Jamie won his age group and placed in the top 10 in the Green Valley 10 miler the same day. Chris (G-Man) had a fantastic performance a the Run the Reagan Half Marathon on Feb 16th in Atlanta, with a 4th place overall and 1st place Master. The same weekend in Myrtle Beach, David set a personal record at the Dasani Myrtle Half Marathon, and followed it up with a 3rd place finish in the Michelob Ultra 30 mile bike ride ("What do you mean it's not a race?") the next day.

Our sights and efforts are set on the season-opening Parris Island sprint distance triathlon, March 15th at the Marine Corps training center outside Beaufort, S.C. With the early season performances so far, this promises to be an exciting year for the team and all our supporters!

There may be no 'I' in team...but there is a 'G'...

I was very surprised to receive a call from David this week about joining Team TYB. With the demise of the Hincapie Team; being passed up by the Setup, Inc Team, and a bit of a struggle trying to keep some sponsors on board - it was looking like I would be racing as 'the unmarked traithlete' this year. It was a bit of a downer but if I did all this racing for the money and the fame, I would have quit years ago. The most important thing I was losing was the opportunity to be a part of a team. Being part of something that is bigger than any one person individually has always proven to be one of the most motivational forces there is. Which brings me to Team TYB...

I was happy to hear the team would be comprised of not just good athletes, but good people. I'm looking forward to meeting those of you that I don't know and some of you (Cam) should not feel ashamed that Pete E. and I are both old enough to be your father (how's that for some more incentive) ;-) I think we can perform well and have a lot of fun.

For those that don't know me, I go by 'G-Man' -or just 'G' and my background is from cycling. I'll add a biographical post when I get a chance but suffice it to say that I've had a successful 3-year stint in the multi-sport world - mainly at longer events and events that involve little or no water.

This blog is a great way to keep the team together. I hope we have more opportunites to train and communicate together than some of the past teams I have been on because that's what makes it fun and keeps people focused. I have had good success with my website (http://www.giordanelli.com/) and will continue to use it as a way to highlight my sponsors, track my training, keep my race schedule (my preliminary 2008 schedule is posted), etc. However, I'm looking forward to giving it a bit of a face lift with my new team.

I hope to see you all on the 11th if not sooner,
G

Skinsuit proof

Okay guys, here's what we are looking at for the uniform. The same design will be on the other items. The only remaining thing is to change the blue of the flames and the "TYB" to a more dark-royal blue. It's gonna look sharp!
