Intro and Update

Hey guys,
Just checkin in with you all and look forward to racing with you next year for those of you who dont know me, my name is Cam Dorn and I guess im the young one here being only 19. This was my first year of triathlon and it has got me instantly hooked I raced in about 15 races this year and loved every last one of them. I am now taking a semester of school in England, but I did not forget to bring my bike with me as you can see. I have still continued training consistently and look forward to have a great season with the team next year.

Hey all, Chris O here!

What 's up guys. I'm excited about joining the Team. I look forward to meeting all of you. Who's in for this weekend?? I am looking forward to the race, but have pretty low expectations as I have been struggling with an IT band injury since IM Louisville.

Since you guys don't know me, here's a little bio...This is my second season of tri racing. I was hooked after my first race. I have a running background, but you wouldn't guess that after looking at my race splits. Ran high school cross country and track as well as cross country in college. But...that was an eternity ago. I've put away enough beer and chips since then to erase anything I achieved in high school and college. I'm 33 now.

Finding triathlon last year was a life changer for me. I'm totally addicted. Before triathlon I had enjoyed staying in shape by working out, but after a few years, I felt like I was spinning my wheels. I really wanted competition. I'm very competitive, and there is no way I could ever be competitive in working out. You'll understand after you see my skinny butt at the race. So, triathlon has allowed me to stay in great shape while also satisfying my competitive side.

I got started with endurence events when my brother asked me to do the Atlanta marathon nearly 3 years ago. Please don't ask about the marathon. I now fully understand the term "GI Issues". What a painful experience. Keep in mind that I'm running through downtown Atlanta at around mile 22, so I think, "No problem, I'll just stop in a corner shop and use their facilities...DUH!!! Its' Thanksgiving...everything's closed. Anyway, to make a long story short, here I am. I love to train. I love to race. I really enjoy talking about triathlon racing and training. I treat my bike like a work of art...don't ever touch it without asking (just ask one of my kids, just kidding of course). I love to daydream about buying the most expensive bike equipment. OK, this is getting out of hand. Not that it's not true, but I'm sharing too much with guys I don't know that well. I really enjoy to ride.

So anyway, I'm looking forward to meeting you guys. I'm hoping I don't have to walk 13.1 miles on Sunday. Talk to you later. Look me up in transition...I'll be on the Kestrel with the GoTriSports kit, probably holding a 1 yr old baby.

SC Half pre-report

Hey guys, looking forward to next year, and a rocking race season.
Just wanted to give you my take on what’s going on at the State Park in Greenwood.
For those of you doing the half this year, I think it will be your fastest. This morning the temp
hovered around 64 until after 12. I went out to do my 13mi’s on the course this morning, what a great day. The water on the other hand was so choppy! It’s hard to imagine white caps on Lake Greenwood but I call it as I see it. Anyway, nothing has changed much from last year. The bike and run are in the same old condition. Though, I am only guessing but the change in the run cutting the turn back to transition will take a little climbing out, and put us on a smother, level road.
Alright guys, time to day dream about IM Florida next year, and watch IM Arizona on VS.
Later,
Stephen

pickens race

Hey guys,
Great race this morning. It was nice to meet you cameron and I look foward to training and racing with you. I think doing group rides, runs, and swims is a great idea. Great job last weekend hal.

Team TYB Racing represent!

We had a great showing at the Pickens family YMCA "Tri the Ridge" sprint today. Of the four teammates, all of us got on the podium! While this may not have been the same depth of competition as the SCTS races, there were plenty of fast guys! Jamie should have come in first overall, but a timing SNAFU (related to not accounting for missing seeded racers - this was not a chip timed event) allowed Kris Sinclair to be awarded first.

Good job, guys! That was a challenging bike course, for sure. Well, maybe not for Jamie, who had to do an extra mile and a half!

Jonathan Sowinski

Jonathan started out as a competitive runner, consistently in the overall top 10, he also won his age group at several big running events. In the winter of 2005 he started cycling and in 2006 made the transition into triathlons. With the help of Coach Jamie Church, Jonathan developed and refined his swimming technique. In 2006 Jonathan won second in his age group at the Anderson area YMCA sprint, Middle Tyger YMCA, and the Hilton Head sprint. In 2007 he finished second in his age group at Valdese sprint, won his age group at the Langley Pond sprint, and second in his age group at the tri the ridge sprint. In 2008 he will compete in his first half Ironman the Florida 70.3, and also continue to be a force in sprint triathlons.

Stephen Shenal

Stephen comes from a strong cycling background with 8 years of racing. His discipline, the time trail, netted him silver in 2005 and gold in 2006, during the South Carolina Championships. In 2006, Stephen made the switch over to triathlon, and feel in love with the sport. In his first season, Stephen finished 3th in the Palmetto State Triathlon series in the 25 to 29 age group, ranked 36th in the South East and was still winning road races, and crits. For 2008, his focus is strictly triathlon, with his first appearance to Ironman in November 2008. Known for his hard work, and the ability to suffer, Stephen is looking at a monumental season for 2008.

David Duchan

David is new to multisport competition, having only started seriously cycling mid-year 2006 and making the decision late that winter to chase the South Carolina Triathlon Series, but his debut year has show a world of promise for his future in the sport of triathlon. An aggressive cyclist, he quickly developed the speed necessary to be competitive in his already fast age group. Years of casual running experience in the US Navy formed the base for more specific training, showing a rapid improvement in both speed and stamina. Having qualified for Age Group Nationals in this first competitive year and taking 2nd place (M 30-34 age group) at the inaugural Tri the Ridge Pickens Family YMCA sprint triathlon, he consistently finishes in the top 10 of his highly competitive age group, the future certainly looks bright for not only success in triathlon, but individual cycling and running events.

Jamie Church

Jamie is Head Coach of Tri Your Best and also team manager of the newly created TYB Racing Team. 2007 marks the 5th "Competitive" Season for Jamie. A fair swimmer, a strong cyclist, and a decent runner, Jamie continues to excel in the short course events. Jamie has earned USA Triathlon All-American Honors in 2005 and USA Triathlon Honorable Mention Honors in 2004 and 2006.

In 2007, Jamie spent a great deal of time focusing on the short course triathlons. His focus on work paid off with 4 Overall Wins at the Anderson Tri the Y Triathlon in April, the Middle Tyger YMCA Triathlon in June, the Middle Tyger Memorial Triathlon in August, and the Pickens Tri the Ridge Triathlon in September. To add to his short course success, Jamie podiumed at the increasingly competitive Parris Island Sprint Triathlon in March and the hometown Greenville Sprint Triathlon in August. Jamie was 3rd Overall at the Parris Island Triathlon and 3rd Overall at the Greenville Sprint Triathlon.

Watch for Jamie in 2008 as he hopes to stay fast in the short course triathlons, but also hopes to make a splash at the Florida 70.3 in May and qualify for the Worlds 70.3 in Clearwater, FL in November.
